What makes learning in Trafford different
Event days. Old Trafford has a football stadium and a cricket ground. On event days the surrounding roads are busier and parking rules matter more. We will plan your lessons around that, and it gives you practice at driving calmly when traffic is heavier than usual.
Mixed road types. Within a short drive you can meet quiet residential streets, long suburban roads with parked cars, larger junctions, roundabouts and dual carriageways. We introduce them in a sensible order, not all at once.
Trams. The Metrolink runs through parts of Trafford. Learning to read tram stops, shared crossings and the road markings beside the tracks early makes you a safer driver for life.
Commuters. Many Trafford learners want a licence because they travel into Manchester for work. We can plan lessons that cover the types of roads you will really use.

How your first lesson goes
- You chat with your instructor about experience, worries and goals.
- You get to know the controls in a quiet spot.
- You move off, steer, stop and use the mirrors.
- You leave with a plan: what you did well, what to practise and what comes next.
Lessons are ideally 2 hours for the most progress, and 1-hour lessons are available on request.

Do you teach automatic lessons in Trafford? Yes. Many learners pick automatic for the stop-start traffic. Details on our automatic lessons page.
Do I need my own car? No, you can learn in your instructor’s car. If you want to use your own car, tell us first so your instructor can check it is suitable.
What documents do I need? A valid UK provisional driving licence.
Will you book my driving test? No, and nobody else can book it for you either. Since 12 May 2026 only the learner can book, change or cancel a car driving test (GOV.UK). We tell you when you are test-ready and give you your instructor’s reference number. You book on GOV.UK.
What does a driving test cost? £62 on weekdays and £75 evenings, weekends and bank holidays; the theory test is £23 (GOV.UK).
