Example budgets
DVSA’s often-quoted average is about 45 hours of lessons plus 22 hours of private practice, but it is an average, not a target (DVSA). Here is what 45 hours would cost on our price list. This is arithmetic, not a forecast of how many hours you will need.
| Route | Packages | Lessons total | Add theory (£23) + weekday test (£62) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular manual | 30h + 15h | £1,575 | £1,660 |
| Regular automatic | 30h + 15h | £1,665 | £1,750 |
| Crash | 30h + 15h | £1,980 | £2,065 |
If you need fewer hours, a smaller package costs less; if you need more, you can add a block.
How do our prices compare?
The DVSA’s 2025 survey of instructors found that £36 to £40 was the most common price for a one-hour lesson across Britain (50.3% of instructors). In the North West, 27.1% charged £35 or less, 51.4% charged £36–£40 and 21.5% charged £41 or more (DVSA survey, October 2025). Our package rates of £35 an hour (manual, 10+ hours) and £37 an hour (automatic) sit at or just around the most common £36–£40 band. Prices are one factor: the other is the instructor, so read the reviews.
Pick the right package
- Complete beginner: start with 10 hours to get a feel, then add more. See how many lessons you need.
- Nervous: the Regular Course gives time between lessons; see nervous driver lessons.
- In a hurry: the Crash Course or intensive courses.
- Prefer no gears: automatic lessons.
