Some learners do not want to spread lessons over six months. They have a new job that needs a licence, a move coming up, a long summer break or simply a lot of energy for the project. For them, lessons close together can be the best way to learn: skills stay fresh from one session to the next, and you do not spend half of each lesson remembering what you did last week.

Our Crash Course is built for that kind of learner. It is available in manual or automatic, in packages of 5 to 30 hours, with as many lessons per day as you and your instructor think sensible. We have taught Manchester learners for over 10 years and have a 5.0★ Google rating from 278 reviews.

Crash Course prices

Hours Price Per hour
5 £250 £50
10 £450 £45
15 £660 £44
20 £880 £44
25 £1,100 £44

Compare with the Regular Course: 10 hours is £350 manual or £370 automatic, spread over a slower pace. The extra cost of Crash buys you flexibility and concentration, not a different standard of teaching.

Is an intensive course right for you?

Intensive learning works well if you:

  • can commit the time for several lessons a week, or even several in a day;
  • are not going to be tired out by long sessions;
  • have already done some driving, or have the confidence to learn quickly;
  • have a deadline, with a realistic idea of how test waiting times work.

It is less suitable if you are very nervous, or if you tire quickly. In that case the Regular Course gives time between lessons to let things sink in. Both are good routes; one will fit you better.

What to sort out before you start

  1. A provisional licence. You cannot take lessons without one.
  2. Your theory test. You need to pass the theory test before you can book your driving test. It costs £23 and has 50 questions plus 14 hazard perception clips (GOV.UK). Our theory test tips can help you prepare.
  3. A realistic view of test dates. Test availability is set by DVSA. We cannot guarantee when you will get a test, and we are not able to book it for you. Only the learner can do that.
  4. Your own test booking. Since 12 May 2026 it is against the law for anyone other than you to book, change or cancel your car driving test. You are limited to two changes and can only move to one of the 3 nearest centres (GOV.UK). Choose a date you can realistically be ready by. See our step-by-step guide to booking your test in 2026.

How hours might be organised (example only)

These are sample patterns, not promises. Your instructor shapes yours around how you progress.

Pattern Example
Steady fast 4 hours, twice a week for 2–3 weeks
Holiday burst 4–6 hours a day on 3–4 days
Weekend focus 2 long sessions each weekend over several weekends

Lessons are ideally 2 hours for most benefit, with longer blocks possible. Your instructor decides whether you can concentrate for longer, and will say honestly if a break would help.

How many hours will I need?

DVSA reports that learners need about 45 hours of professional lessons plus 22 hours of private practice on average, but there is no minimum, and some learners need fewer while others need more (DVSA). A 30-hour Crash Course gives you a lot of practice in a short time; we will tell you after your first lessons whether to expect more. Our guide to how many lessons you need has the detail.
